On This International Women’s Day + The Power Of Women’s Liberation

The Power of Women’s Freedom

On this International Women’s Day, we gather to honor the profound wisdom, resilience, and transformative power that women bring to our world. But today is not just a day of celebration—it is a reminder, a call to action, and an acknowledgment of the work still ahead.

Historically, societies that have embraced women’s freedom and participation have reaped the benefits of prosperity and progress. Research shows that when women are given equal rights, economies grow, communities thrive, and social stability increases.

For instance, gender equality in the workplace and economy could add $28 trillion to global GDP by 2025 (McKinsey Global Institute). Nations that empower women experience higher economic growth, lower child mortality rates, and greater democratic stability (World Bank). Companies with women in leadership positions are more profitable, with better employee satisfaction and ethical governance (Harvard Business Review).

When women thrive, entire societies thrive.

The Backlash Against Women’s Rights

Yet, despite these undeniable benefits, we are seeing a resurgence of patriarchal culture that threatens the hard-won rights of women. Around the world, we are witnessing a rollback on gender equality, where women’s sovereignty and self-possession are being eroded.

According to The Guardian, nearly 24% of governments have reported setbacks in gender equality over the past year, and violence against women and girls has increased dramatically, with a 50% rise in conflict-related sexual violence since 2022 (The Guardian).

In the U.S., reproductive rights, workplace protections, and legal autonomy for women are being rolled back at alarming rates. These are not just battles of the past—they are happening now, and they demand our attention.

A Brief History of International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day, officially recognized by the United Nations in 1977, serves as both a celebration and a call to action for women’s rights. It originated in the early 1900s, growing from labor and socialist movements advocating for women’s workplace rights.

March 8 is now observed worldwide, though customs vary—some countries make it a national holiday, while others mark it with flowers, protests, or community events. But for us, as witches and priestesses, this day is more than just a celebration—it is about reclaiming our power.

Witchcraft + Women’s Liberation

Witchcraft has long been the craft of the marginalized. Historically, those without power—peasants, pagans, and women—turned to magic, the unseen, and their ancestors for support when systems failed them.

But today, this story must evolve.

We are not powerless. We are sovereign. We know how to weave reality, how to move between the seen and unseen worlds, how to stand with our ancestral lineage behind us.

We know that life, her rhythms, and her interconnectedness provide the blueprint for human relationships. Attempts to separate us—from nature, from other races, from other genders, or from other nations—move us away from the potent and healthy way of being that life calls us to.

We will not be divided.

Why Women’s Leadership Matters

When women lead, the world gets better for everyone. Women bring holistic solutions to leadership, prioritizing community, sustainability, and equity.

  • More women in government = stronger climate policies and better environmental outcomes (Reuters).
  • Companies with more women in leadership are more profitable.
  • Women-led communities experience greater peace, economic stability, and public health improvements(Time).

But this is not a conversation about whether women are “better than men.” That is a patriarchal question that has no place here.

The future is communal, rooted in equity, respect, and the well-being of all beings—humans, animals, the natural world, and even the cosmos.

Guiding Questions for Deepening Our Commitment to Women’s Liberation

If we are to fully embody the liberation of women, we must ask ourselves:

  1. Where in my life do I still hold internalized patriarchal beliefs that limit my freedom, power, or self-worth?
  2. How do I actively uplift and support the women in my life—emotionally, professionally, or spiritually?
  3. How am I engaging with the structures and systems that shape women’s rights—both locally and globally?
  4. What wisdom from my lineage or spiritual practice can I reclaim to support liberation?
  5. Am I living in a way that ensures a more just, free, and inclusive future?

Take time with these questions. Journal. Meditate. Speak them aloud in a circle. Let the answers guide you into deeper action and awareness.

What You Can Do Today

If you are feeling moved, here are some ways to step into action:

  • Support women-led businesses, communities, and organizations.
  • Educate yourself & share this knowledge—because knowledge is power.
  • Vote, advocate, and take action where women’s rights are under threat.
  • Call out injustice when you see it—both in your personal life and in larger systems.
  • Uplift women. Always.

When women are free, we all are free.

Final Thoughts: Our Power + Responsibility

If you take away one thing today, let it be this:

A world where women are free is a world where all beings—humans, animals, nature, and even the cosmos—flourish.

This is our time to stand in our power, our authority, and our sacred responsibility to weave a better world.
