We Must Not Go Gently into the Dark Night: A Call to Witches Everywhere

A New Threat on the Horizon

We stand at a threshold. The winds of political change are stirring, and with them comes the shadow of old threats—threats that those of us who walk the path of the Witch know all too well. As the tides shift toward an administration entwined with right-wing Christian ideologies, it is not sensationalistic to ask: How long before our freedom to speak, practice, and share our spiritual truths comes under scrutiny once again?

History’s Warning: The Cost of Silence

This is not a new story. History bears the scars of what happens when those in power view any path outside of sanctioned religion as dangerous. The Witch trials of centuries past were not solely about superstition; they were political, economic, and cultural purges designed to suppress independent thought, feminine power, and the preservation of ancient wisdom. They targeted those who healed outside sanctioned systems, those who spoke truths that challenged authority, and those who dared to live beyond patriarchal control.

We know what happens when fear is weaponized against knowledge. It has cost lives. It has silenced generations. And yet, Witchcraft—our spiritual technologies, our rituals, our embodied wisdom—has always survived. It survived because Witches adapted. They wrote in code. They whispered across kitchen tables. They taught their children in hushed voices. They passed down books, stories, and spells like precious heirlooms, knowing that the greatest defense against erasure is remembrance.

How Are You Preserving What You Know?

This is not a hypothetical question. It is a duty. The spells you have crafted, the rituals that align you with the cycles of life, the mantras that center your soul, and the ancestral knowledge you carry—how are you ensuring they endure? The time to act is now, while we still stand in relative safety, before shadows grow longer.

Books, Bytes, and Breath: Safeguarding Sacred Knowledge

Start with your Book of Shadows. Yes, the written word still holds power. Write it down—on paper, in leather-bound journals, in sketchbooks marked with pressed herbs and wax drippings. But also consider the digital age we live in. Create encrypted digital copies. Store them on cloud platforms and external drives. Share them with trusted souls. Knowledge scattered across many hands is harder to destroy.

But written words alone are not enough. We must rekindle the oral traditions that sustained spiritual lineages long before paper existed. Speak your truths. Share your spells and teachings with your coven, your family, your children, your friends. Make it ritualized—a holy commitment. Create gatherings where stories are told and retold until they live not just in books but in bodies, imprinted on the very cells of your beloveds. This is how knowledge becomes unshakable. This is how we build resilience against erasure.

Constitutional Protections Are Fraying—Our Voices Are Not

Do not rest in the comfort of constitutional protections—they are fraying before our eyes. The walls that once upheld freedoms are being chipped away, stone by stone. And yet, even if laws shift against us, one powerful tool remains ours to wield without restriction: our voices.

Speak. Speak loudly and often. Share your practices, your insights, and your truths. The internet, despite its flaws, is a fortress of visibility. Post your rituals, your reflections, your experiences. Normalize Witchcraft not as a spectacle, but as a lived, breathing practice that nourishes mind, body, and spirit. The more we share, the harder it becomes to silence us.

Liberation, Not Conversion

And no, this is not about converting the world to Witchcraft. That has never been the goal. The goal is liberation—the kind that comes from deep connection, mindfulness, and spiritual sovereignty. If all we achieve is encouraging more people to meditate, to connect with the earth, to honor their intuition, we will have planted seeds that soften the harsh edges of intolerance. Even the smallest shift toward presence undermines the violence of reactionary fear.

To that end, I’m excited to announce the return of my YouTube series, Witch, Meditate!—a space dedicated to sharing simple but profound practices that root us in clarity and resilience. Stay tuned for details, because the time to act is now.

How Are You Showing Up?

So, I ask you: How are you preparing? How are you sharing? How are you showing up?

We cannot go quietly into the shadows of fear. We must scatter like seeds in the wind, rooting ourselves in visibility, community, and courage. This is our moment to fortify our stewardship of sacred knowledge. To stand, not in defiance, but in radiant, undeniable presence.

We are here. We have always been here. And we are not leaving.
