  • Element: Water – Fire
  • Modality: Fixed – Mutable
  • Planetary Ruler: Mars – Jupiter

ABOUT THE DARK/ BALSAMIC PHASE

The Waning Dark Moon is the phase when it’s still displaying a thin silver line, at the verge of becoming invisible in the night sky as it approaches the Sun. Symbolically, it represents the declining phase of the cycle of life, beginning two nights before the New Moon, which is when it has lost all of its illumination. Thus, this phase prepares us for the rebirth and new beginning that comes after the exact conjunction of the two luminaries.

RETURNING TO THE CAVE

The Waning Dark Moon represents the time when we’re heading back to the cave, when we return from our journey through the outside and head towards our inner/underworld. As the energies decay, we are invited to rest, recharge, let go of something and close negative cycles, break old patterns, release from energetic or body toxins, banish what we want out or cut the cords that attach us to the past. It’s when we enter the Crone phase, commune with the Dark Goddess and meet with our shadow side.

THE TIME IN BETWEEN ECLIPSES: NOVEMBER 3OTH- DECEMBER 14TH

Since November 30th we’ve been in between eclipses, in a cosmic bridge that takes us from the end of a karmic cycle to the start of a new one that will serve as a doorway to a new order and reality. This profound and spiritually intense period has been emerging from the surface all that needs to be faced consciously in order to be released. There has been a theme of letting go and banishing what no longer serves in order to prepare for the energetic shift and the new beginning we will be meeting from December 14th to the 21st with the Grand Conjunction between Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius.

Further, because of the Sun’s and Lunar Nodes square to Neptune, it may have also been a highly nebulous period as if our horizon is covered in a fog and we’re at the middle of the bridge not knowing where we’re heading, questioning our beliefs or what our purpose is. However, after the Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius, the fog will begin to dissipate and our horizon will be getting gradually clearer, but since it will be happening with the South Node, the clarity we receive will be about what we may need to leave behind in order to follow a new vision and a purpose that aligns with our soul’s mission. For this reason, this upcoming lunar event represents a cosmic reset after a total purge.

THE WANING DARK MOON OF ECLIPSE SEASON

With this Waning Dark Moon, we’ve reached the darkest and most nebulous point of this eclipse gateway, but passing through it is what will be leading us to the new dawn. For instance, this makes it the most potent time for deep introspection, for turning within in order to find the answers we’ve been seeking and to uncover the true desires of the heart. The energies are also powerful for releasing and banishing, especially with the Waning Moon happening in the sign of Scorpio.

In this sign, the Queen of the Night is at a fall, meaning that our emotions will be running deep as all of the suppressed may rise to the surface, like fears, insecurities and all that we may tend to keep under the rug. Thus, allow yourself to let it all out in order to find relief and liberation for the upcoming new start. This is also a time for retreating, so if you feel like you need extra rest and to tune out from the outside world, honor this feeling. The week after this lunar event we may begin feeling the push to work towards our goals and our objectives so take this darkening of the Moon time to recharge.

RITUALS AND ACTIVITIES DURING THE WANING DARK MOON

On the 13th, the day before the Solar Eclipse, the Waning Moon will be in Sagittarius and so using fire and/or candle magic will be perfect for your rituals and spells oriented towards banishing and releasing. However, if you would like to follow traditional astrological rules, avoid performing any kind of magic during the day of the eclipse as the energy of these events can be chaotic and unpredictable. Hence, best to perform during the Waning Moon. Regardless, it’s the perfect time for an energetic and physical cleanse of your environment and body to prepare for the cosmic reset. Prepare your ambiance and your mind for what you will like to attract and achieve in this new start and set the intention to release the beliefs and the mindset that doesn’t align with your vision and your goals.
