ABOUT SOLAR ECLIPSES

Solar eclipses occur during the darkest phase of the Moon, known as the New Moon, which is when it’s situated between Earth and the Sun. It results impossible for us to see it because the solar rays can’t illuminate the near side of the Moon. However, there is an exception, for it’s visible when it’s silhouetted against the Sun during the eclipse. This event is produced when the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic, the path of the Sun. Thus, when the luminaries are close to a lunar node. For instance, a total solar eclipse casts the Umbra on Earth and the Moon covers the Sun’s entire disk. This produces darkness during day time in the places where the shadow was cast. However, an annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon leaves only the outer edges of the Sun visible, forming a ring of fire that encircles the Moon.

ECLIPSES EFFECTS FROM THE ASTROLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

Astrologically, considering that the Sun represents life, vitality and clarity and will be eclipsed by the Queen of the Night that represents the subconscious mind and our fluctuating emotions, our sense of vitality may decrease and will be calling for us to turn within. Thus, if the New Moon is a time of stillness and for introspection, when it happens with this event, its energy is three times stronger and three times recommended to retreat at home, introspect and only do spiritual activities. It’s not ideal to set New Moon intentions, cast spells for manifestation, take risks and make important decisions as it’s considered an inauspicious event from the traditional perspective.

However, eclipses have a more profound meaning and that is that they trigger karmic events that can last months, years or a lifetime, depending on what occurred during the course of its six month cycle. Generally, it’s an event that realigns us to a karmic purpose while it liberates us from what is no longer a part of our evolution.

ANNULAR SOLAR ECLIPSE IN CANCER

The New Moon and Annular Solar Eclipse will occur in the sign of Cancer, a Cardinal and Water sign ruled by the Moon. This is the last eclipse in Cancer of the North Node that we will have in 18 years, meaning that it will ultimately be marking a new beginning as a new karmic cycle of this length initiates.

The Solar Eclipse will occur right with the Summer/Winter Solstice making it very rare and in the 0 degree of Cancer. This number symbolizes a time of beginnings, reinforcing that this lunar event will be bringing a complete restart in the area of life it will transit in our chart. In addition, although the North Node changed to Gemini recently, it will be in a conjunction with the luminaries because, although they’re in different signs, they will only be 1 degree apart. For instance, this conjunction highlights that this new cycle will be bringing fated changes and it indicates that all that has occurred from the beginning of the eclipses in this sign, was in order to connect us to a higher purpose that’s a part of our destiny.

CANCER SEASON: MERCURY RETROGRADE, THE LUNAR ECLIPSE AND THE SECOND NEW MOON IN CANCER

Mercury will be going retrograde in this sign during the eclipse portal, from this one to the Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn of July 5th. This means that it will be inviting for us to do a rewind and reflect on the situations and lessons that came with these eclipses of 2018-2020. This is because it’s inviting us to close a cycle, release and heal from past experiences in order for a new one to initiate. Hence, the next 30 days will be about releasing, purifying, shedding and closing cycles before the new begins to emerge. Interestingly, we will have another New Moon in Cancer on July 20th, making it finally a time to set intentions and begin vibrating in the energy of Cancer by applying the lessons learned.

THE LUNAR NODES: POINTS OF DESTINY

Every year we have eclipses, but they always have a different meaning, for they always occur close to the lunar nodes as this is where the Sun and Moon intersect in their orbit, resulting in an eclipse. These mathematical points change signs every 1.5 years and are always opposite each-other (six signs apart) in the same degree.

Thus, they occur in a different axis. On November 6th 2018, the North Node changed to Cancer and the South Node changed to its opposite sign, Capricorn. However, they finally entered the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius on May 5th, 2020. This means that the next two eclipses we will have in Cancer-Capricorn will be the last ones we will have in 9 years. However, by then it will be backwards, the North Node will be in Capricorn and the South Node will be in Cancer.

THIS LUNAR EVENT WILL OPEN A KARMIC CYCLE THAT WILL LAST UNTIL 2037

In almost 18 years, is when they will change in the order they were from 2018-2020, signifying that this lunar event will bring a new beginning and open a karmic cycle that will last until 2037. What we’ve experienced from the first Solar Eclipse in Cancer, which was in July 12th of 2018, and in regards to how it individually affected us based on our natal chart, is what began stirring the transformation we will meet with this last one.

The eclipses in Cancer may have brought endings, karmic lessons and fated changes that were in order to align us with a higher purpose. Now, this lunar event will mark a restart, making it an excellent period to reflect on what occurred in that area of life, what lessons these events came with and to heal, for it’s through this process that we’re able to manifest positive changes in the new cycle it will mark.

In July 5th, 2020 we will have the last Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn, marking a culmination and the end of a karmic cycle while bringing important lessons. The eclipses in Capricorn have been of the South Node and since this is the point of dissolution, it asked for the collective to cease vibrating in the shadow side of that sign in order to begin connecting more with the sign of the North Node.

The South Node or “dragon’s tail” is a point of karmic dissolution, what we have to let go of and what we need to abolish by balancing it with its opposite sign. The North Node or the “dragon’s head” is the point of our dharma, the path we need to follow for our soul’s evolution.

THE SOUTH NODE IN CAPRICORN

This mathematical point in Capricorn indicated that where there should be a dissolution is in the themes of this sign, which is ruled by Saturn. Collectively, it has to do with patriarchy, structures, institutions and figures of power. Since it has to do more with dissolving its shadow side, this lunar node showed us the dark side of Capitalism, the rotten inside the government and the systems in society that no longer work. What has occurred in the world, in the government and in society since 2018 that aligns with this? Has it been one of the most intense years we’ve experienced? Attribute it to the South Node in Capricorn.

In an individual level, it has to do with our internal or external structures that need to be demolished in an area of our lives. This is because these ones are no longer solid, they are old and need to be rebuilt.

THE NORTH NODE IN CANCER

The North Node in Cancer indicated where we should focus our energy to balance the excess of Capricorn in our lives. This sign is ruled by the Moon. Hence, it represents the archetype of the mother, our emotional world, the subconscious mind, how we take care of others, protect and nurture. Cancer governs the fourth house of the Natal chart. Hence, it was calling for us to return to our home, to heal from the past, reconnect with our roots and our family.

Interestingly, we spent the last three months of the North Node in Cancer quarantined in our home, with our loved ones, inevitably bringing us closer and changing the way society functioned (South Node in Capricorn) in order to protect the life of our family and ours (North Node in Cancer). Our individual situations that came from these eclipses had the purpose for us to begin vibrating in the positive energy of this sign, which is to connect with the divine feminine within, with the capacity to create and then protect and nurture that creation. Also to know when is a time to let go, shed and banish in order for the new to come, as represented by the lunar phases.

MERCURY RETROGRADE IN CANCER: JUNE 18TH-JULY 12TH

Mercury will be retrograde in this sign during this lunar event and it will be directing our focus to the area of life it will be transiting in our chart which is also where we will be meeting a restart with this Solar Eclipse. Since Mercury in this motion always emerges what has not healed and brings back the past, then it’s indicative that it will be taking us back to the events that occurred from 2018 to 2020 with the eclipses in Cancer. There is something that needs to be revised there before the new start and restoration that follows from this lunar event. For instance, Mercury Retrograde will be preparing us for the new beginning it will mark in that area of life!

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

The Solar Eclipse will be bringing a complete restart and a new beginning to an area of your life. However, since Mercury will be going retrograde there until July 12th, it indicates that the new will begin to manifest after a period of revision, purification, healing, releasing, banishing and making adjustments and changes. In order for a cycle to initiate, one needs to close and this transit will be shedding light to the ones left open. Hence, making these next two weeks ideal for reflection and introspection. After the lunar eclipse, it’s excellent to begin releasing and to bring the cycles to culmination finally. After this period we may finally apply the lessons that came with these eclipses and begin following the soul path and higher purpose they align us with.
