ABOUT LUNAR ECLIPSES

When there is a Full Moon and Earth is aligned between the luminaries, we have a lunar eclipse. This happens because as the three celestial bodies are in alignment and the Moon passes behind Earth, from the perspective of the Sun, the solar rays are blocked from reaching the lunar surface. However, depending on the precision of the alignment, we have what’s called a total, partial or penumbral eclipse.

A Total Lunar Eclipse or Blood Moon occurs when the Sun, Earth and the Moon are perfectly aligned and the Moon is completely immersed in the umbra, Earth’s Shadow, turning completely red. However, this reflected light is actually the atmosphere of Earth being refracted onto it. A partial lunar eclipse occurs when they’re in an imperfect alignment, but the Moon falls partially in the umbra, resulting with only a fraction being shadowed. Lastly, a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse occurs when they’re also imperfectly aligned, but the Moon passes through the penumbra, which is the outer part of umbra, causing only a subtle dim to the lunar surface.

THE ASTROLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF LUNAR ECLIPSES

Lunar Eclipses triple the energy of a Full Moon as they’re loaded with the pulling force of the lunar nodes since these events can only happen when the Sun & Moon are close to them, happening about every six months and in pairs since they occur in opposite signs and in two different astrological seasons. They’re the North (Dragon’s head) and the South Node (Dragon’s tail), invisible points that indicate where eclipses occur which is when the Moon passes through where its orbit intersects with the ecliptic, the path of the Sun. Astrologically, they have a powerful significance and that’s that they are karmic points that act as portals that bring outflowing new energy, opportunities and open a new and unexplored path while closing the doors to the past and dissolving what can no longer remain.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ECLIPSE OF THE DRAGON’S HEAD (NORTH NODE) OR DRAGON’S TAIL (SOUTH NODE)

Eclipses of the Sun that happen beside the Dragon’s head, which is the point of intake and destiny, open new doors, bring fated changes and increase activity to the area of life in which it transits in our chart, leading us to find a new purpose. Collectively, it augurs that the world is shifting its focus to the matters of what that zodiac sign and its planetary ruler represents and it’s inviting us to vibrate more in its energy to balance it out with the opposite sign.

In contrast, when they fall in the sign of the South Node, the point of karmic dissolution and surrender, it calls for a change of form in the area in which it transits in our chart. It invites us to dissolve, sacrifice or release matters there in order to bring in change and connect with a higher purpose. It’s the same for the collective, something around the themes of that sign and what its planetary lord represents is being dissolved and released and we will see this manifest materially after this cycle was initiated or during the lunar eclipse that comes in the opposite astrological season.

TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE IN SAGITTARIUS

The Blood Moon will occur at 5 degrees Sagittarius, a fire and mutable sign ruled by Jupiter. This lunar event will be of the dragon’s tail, as the Moon will be merging with the South Node, the point of dissolution whilst forming a t-square with Jupiter in Pisces and the Sun conjunct the Dragon’s head. Thus, not only is this a total eclipse, making its influence stronger, but it will be in a tense alignment with its ruler and whilst Mercury, the ruler of the Sun in Gemini, also in this zodiac sign, is preparing to station retrograde. This is indicative that we’re at a crucial period in 2021. After the groundbreaking and eruptive energy of Taurus Season, the time for real change has come as we’ve entered new territory and a new state of mind, although the road ahead may be covered in mist.

PREPARING FOR THE COSMIC RESET OF THE ANNULAR SOLAR ECLIPSE IN GEMINI

This is what the Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius and Mercury Retrograde will come to clear up, to dissipate the mist and bring clarity to our horizon by making us question precisely our dreams, our beliefs, ideals and aspirations first. Falsity and appearances are no longer valued over authenticity and that’s what will be burned and illuminated with this fiery Blood Moon, hence, the illusions, the masks, the lies and the false beliefs will be going down the South Node’s drain.

Eclipse season comes to realign us with our truth and the path of our destiny, but its Full Moon may come first with the nebulousness, the confusion, the doubts and the questions. It will also be announcing karmic endings, but this will be in order to make space for fated beginnings. Therefore, these transits are thus preparing us for the Annular Solar Eclipse in Gemini of June 10th that will bring a cosmic reset and a new beginning pertaining to Gemini/Mercurial themes.

MERCURY RETROGRADE IN GEMINI: MAY 29TH – JUNE 22ND

Three days after this lunar event, Mercury, the ruler of the astrological season and the next eclipse, will be stationing retrograde in their same sign, this is BIG because this is indicative that what will be illuminated during this Lunar Eclipse is what we will be focusing on during this retrograde. The lunar nodes are always opposite each other and the North Node points to what we should follow, hints to where matters will increase and what will be greatly in the collective focus.

ECLIPSE SEASON AND MERCURY RETROGRADE: COLLECTIVE EFFECTS

In the sign of Gemini it talks about that there will be a lot of changes and attention to the markets, commerce, communications, trade, and so on. Since the New Moon in Taurus on May 11th, the stock market and crypto has been suffering a crash indirectly due to a leader’s (Jupiter) tweets (Mercury/Gemini) since he has a lot of influence (Jupiter/Pisces) in the collective.

This is because Eclipse Season actually began with this last lunar event since it always begins two weeks prior to the first eclipse, Mercury was right conjunct the North Node, and Jupiter was about to enter Pisces, already giving us a preview of what these powerful transits will be about collectively. Individually, this is a period ideal for reflection and introspection. A new start is coming soon, but first we’re being invited to turn within and to reconnect with our purpose. It’s not advised to begin anything new as we have the foggy influence of Mercury square Neptune and the retrograde.

FULL MOON ILLUMINATION BEFORE MERCURY SHIFTS BACKWARDS

This also highlights that big changes are coming as we’re aligned with our soul path and the fog clears to explore a new horizon. As related with the themes of Gemini, we will be following new interests, open our minds to new perspectives and step into a new territory in an area of our lives. However, where the South Node and the Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius are transiting indicates where there may be endings as we let go of old narratives, beliefs and perspectives. This loss or ending is what will provoke the huge shift augured with the Solar eclipse in Gemini. Thus, what will be illuminated is what we may need to release and let go of during Mercury Retrograde, having to do with Sagittarius themes. We will be leaving a path behind as we step into a new and different one.

LUNAR ECLIPSE T-SQUARE JUPITER IN PISCES

The luminaries will be in a tight square with the ruler and significator of this lunar event, Jupiter, who just entered the sign of Pisces. In this sign, Jupiter is well placed as it’s in one of its home signs and so it will be bringing expansion, abundance and good fortune. However, it will be going back to Aquarius on July 28th as it will station retrograde next month. This means that we’re yet to experience its full benefic effects since it’s in its shadow zone. The fact that it will be tensely aspected by this South Node eclipse reinforces it and that first, before meeting the new, we must let go of the old.

The combination of the Pisces-Sagittarius influence highlights that what would be falling from the dragon’s tail are false beliefs, illusions, appearances, dreams, ideals, aspirations and idols. The veils of illusion will be lifted in order to come closer to our truth, our authenticity and be realigned with the path of our purpose. Collectively and individually for some, with this Lunar eclipse square Jupiter, someone that was put on a high pedestal may fall as we uncover what lies behind the mask.
