ABOUT THE DARK/ BALSAMIC PHASE

The Waning Dark Moon is the phase when it’s still displaying a thin silver line, at the verge of becoming invisible in the night sky as it approaches the Sun. Symbolically, it represents the declining phase of the cycle of life. It begins two nights before the New/Dark Moon, which is when it has lost all of its illumination. Thus, this phase prepares us for the rebirth and new beginning that comes after the exact conjunction between the two luminaries.

RETURNING TO THE CAVE

Further, it always begins in the sign of the last astrological season and thus, of the last New Moon. It represents the time when we’re heading back to the cave, when we return from our journey through the outside and head towards our inner/underworld. In its growing phase (New Moon) we meet the outer expression of that sign during the lunation. Conversely, when it’s waning, we meet its inner expression, as the Sun is no longer in that sign. Further, it invites us to rest, recharge, release from energetic or body toxins, banish what we want out or cut the cords that attach us to the past. It’s when we enter the Crone phase, commune with the Dark Goddess and meet with our shadow side.

WANING DARK MOON IN CANCER | ASTROLOGICAL DETAILS

The two nights before the New Moon in Cancer are the most potent to purge, release and banish of what was illuminated during the Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn, for we will have the Waning Dark Moon happening also in the sign ruled by the Queen of the Night. Cancer Season came with two New Moons in this sign, one being a Solar Eclipse and the other a Black Moon, a term given to the second New Moon of the month, a slightly rare phenomenon that occurs about every 32 months.

The first one happened in the very first degree of Cancer and the next one of July 20th, in the 28 degree. For instance, this Waning Dark Moon will last until it reaches this number or until the New Moon. Another important note, is that there will be two Waning Dark Moons in Cancer, this one being the first, the second will happen on August 14th before the New Moon in Leo.

WANING DARK MOON IN CANCER | CLOSING ECLIPSE SEASON’S CHAPTER

This Balsamic Moon will bring the astrological month of Cancer and Eclipse Season to a culmination. The period of eclipses initiated with the New Moon in Gemini of May 22nd and ends with the New/Black Moon in Cancer of July 20th. Therefore, these last two nights are important, as we will be invited to reflect on the lessons learned and/or on the situations that surged and to finally cut the cords and release what was revealed that we could no longer sustain.

The Solar Eclipse in Cancer of June 22nd marked a karmic restart to that area of life and announced that new things were coming our way. However, since it happened with Mercury Retrograde in Cancer and before a Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn, it indicated that there were still things to revise and readjust in that area before we could see externally the new beginning. Therefore, this month was brewing that new start behind the scenes and it’s from the New/Black Moon in Cancer that we will be able to finally meet it and be able to attract the new and improved.

BLACK MOON IN CANCER | TIME TO SET INTENTIONS

Thus, this makes this next lunar event about setting intentions, but because it will be opposing Saturn in Capricorn, it will be by breaking free from our limitations and from the structures that were teared. For instance, this Waning Dark Moon is an opportunity to turn within, to purge and release the old, the suppressed or the negative influences in that area of life so that you’re able to manifest in this next lunar cycle.

This area of life activated by these lunar events is one ruled by Cancer. Hence, it’s where we like to feel protected, secure and nurtured, where we feel at home or rooted. With the North Node and eclipses in this sign from 2018 to 2020, we learned a new way to expressing or applying this energy. Therefore, a new way of expressing the Mother Archetype, which not only protects, but creates life. Thus, these lunar events created a new fertile ground and now we will have a different way of taking care of what we will begin creating and manifesting by also applying the individual lessons learned with the North Node in Cancer.

THE ENERGETIC INFLUENCE, ACTIVITIES AND RITUALS

The Moon in Cancer will be making a conjunction to Mercury still in its retrograde shadow, which means that we may feel with the need to communicate our emotions. However, as it will be squaring Mars, Black Moon Lilith and Chiron in Aries, conflict may arise since the dark feminine within, our deep ingrained wounds, resentment or anger may emerge from the shadows. This makes it an excellent time to journal those feelings or look for other therapeutic ways of expressing them.

The need to take a time to retreat, rest and recharge is reinforced with these aspects and we will enter our inner underworld to detoxify from what is no longer tolerated in our mind, body or soul. Apart from the inner work, it’s also ideal to cleanse our home energetically or make a spiritual bath to eliminate any negative influences lingering. This is in order to prepare for the New Moon that will be bringing renewal and we can finally set intentions for the new cycle.
