  • Waning Dark Moon: Libra-Scorpio
  • Begins: November 12th-15th
  • Element: Air / Water
  • Modality: Cardinal / Fixed
  • Planetary Ruler: Venus / Mars & Pluto

ABOUT THE DARK/ BALSAMIC PHASE

The Waning Dark Moon is the phase when it’s still displaying a thin silver line, at the verge of becoming invisible in the night sky as it approaches the Sun. Symbolically, it represents the declining phase of the cycle of life, beginning two nights before the New Moon, which is when it has lost all of its illumination. Thus, this phase prepares us for the rebirth and new beginning that comes after the exact conjunction of the two luminaries.

RETURNING TO THE CAVE

The Waning Dark Moon represents the time when we’re heading back to the cave, when we return from our journey through the outside and head towards our inner/underworld. As the energies decay, we are invited to rest, recharge, let go of something and close negative cycles, break old patterns, release from energetic or body toxins, banish what we want out or cut the cords that attach us to the past. It’s when we enter the Crone phase, commune with the Dark Goddess and meet with our shadow side.

THE WANING DARK MOON OF SCORPIO SEASON

With this Waning Dark Moon initiating through the sign of Libra, we have entered the death phase of Scorpio Season. A time when we enter our inner underworld to prepare for the rebirth and the transformative new lunar cycle that initiates with the New Moon. This preparation has been longer than usual, however, with Mercury Retrograde transiting through this sign from October 13th to the 27th. Hence, it has represented an intense and long period of reflection in an area of our lives that began with uncertainty and ended with an illumination after the Full Moon in Taurus.

MERCURY DIRECT RE-ENTERS SCORPIO

On November 10th, after it stationed direct in Libra one week before, Mercury re-entered Scorpio, coinciding with the waning dark phase of the Moon, making it the ideal time to review and reflect upon the lessons that came with this retrograde transit and begin planning on initiating the changes that it may have awakened in us the desire to make.

MARS, CO RULER OF SCORPIO, STATIONS DIRECT DURING THE WANING DARK MOON: WARMING UP THE ENGINES BEFORE STARTING

This week is all about warming up the engines in order to kickstart something after the New Moon. This is not only because of the planet of communication beginning to move forward in the same sign as the upcoming lunar event, but because Mars, the planet of action and co ruler of Scorpio, will be stationing direct on the 13th. Hence, during the Waning Dark Moon. However, when a planet stations direct, it doesn’t begin moving forward immediately, it literally stops moving for a while and coincidentally, after its pause, Mars will begin moving forward the day of the New Moon, which is on November 15th.

Remember that because this planet rules this sign it means that it’s the significator of this lunar event and so this makes its influence even more significant. And what’s this telling us? That what was before halted, stagnant and was put on a hold or what project or goal you wanted to begin, but just couldn’t seem to kickstart things, the energies will now be giving them movement and will be fueling us to take forceful action as we’re finally clear of where we’re heading.

THE RESTORATION OF ENERGIES AFTER THIS WANING DARK MOON

Therefore, after the New Moon we have: Mercury (ruling our ideas) and Mars (ruling our actions) moving direct and a fertile Waxing Moon, making it perfect to begin taking action on your ideas and to climb towards your goals. Though not everything is about our ambitions, so these transits also point to solving problems and/or healing after finding the root cause and about coming to decisions that will be helping us move forward after being stagnant because of the indecision. The use of this last word is intentional as Mercury re-entered Libra, the sign of the scales, on October 27th and was there until November 10th. Thus, entering back in Scorpio helped us get to the bottom of things and finally come to conclusions.

PREPARING FOR THE NEW LUNAR CYCLE IN SCORPIO

However, we first have this Waning Dark Moon while Mars is stationary and Jupiter and lord of death, Pluto, will be in their third and last conjunction on the 12th. This highlights that before the rebirth and before the energies restart, we need to take a pause to find the answers within or recharge and heat up the engines. We need to take a time to reflect, to make plans and prepare for the new cycle that will initiate in an area of our lives .

This area will be meeting major structural changes since this is what this New Moon augurs because of its harmonious alignment with the Jupiter and Pluto conjunction. Mercury went retrograde through this area because there were things that needed to be revised and changed and its opposition with Uranus during this lunar event hints that it’s time to begin making them or adjusting to them if they already happened.

TAKING THIS WANING DARK MOON TIME TO RELEASE, BANISH, REST AND RECHARGE

Therefore, as we prepare for this new lunar cycle, it’s propitious to let go of anything that you no longer want in your life and energetic field. It’s also ideal to prepare for for the project or goal that you want to initiate during the Waxing New Moon through making an action plan, disposing of what you need to get rid of for that, discarding the old methods and beginning to break negative habits or addictions that won’t help you come to the desired destination.

We’re in the darkest point and death phase of Scorpio Season, so these moonless nights are about banishing the inner demons, shedding our skin like the serpent, confronting our fears and our shadow, allowing our dark emotions to flow in order to heal and restore our body, mind and soul and reborn from the ashes like the Phoenix. Use the element of Water to perform your rituals of magick.
